I’ve done a lot of different things.
Weirdgears is where those different strands meet: software, books, research, experiments, and the occasional idea that refuses to remain in its assigned category.
Background
A career without a particularly tidy through-line.
I’m not a management guru. This is probably for the best. The world already has enough of them.
I’ve worked as a shift supervisor in a gold mine and as the CIO of a company with 3,500 employees. I’ve laid communications cables in the Saudi Arabian desert, worked on water-control systems in Baghdad, programmed control systems, and developed systems for large logistics companies.
I’ve run small building projects in oil fields, worked as an analyst in investment banking, and brokered oils, seeds, and fats. Yes, I was a nut broker. I’ve heard the jokes before.
I’ve also started companies. Some worked. A couple went bust. Failure is an expensive form of education, but the lessons tend to remain available after the course ends.
The work collected here comes from that mixture. I’m interested in how people think, how organizations make decisions, how tools shape the work around them, and whether a useful thing can be made from an idea that initially looks slightly implausible.
I live on a farm in Denmark with my wife and kids.
